AFTERWORDS • Art Box:
In "Pop, Blues & Pointen," alongside Jäger are his daughter Magdalena Köchl and musicians Philipp Kopmajer (Drums) and Roli Wesp (Piano) in focus… a seamless interplay between music and cabaret.
Magdalena Köchl gave some pieces a true chills-inducing moment with her sensual, deep alto. Her interpretation of the classic "House of the Rising Sun" became one of the atmospheric highlights of the evening. Supported by the bluesy piano and the subtly grooving drums, the song slowly developed into an intense soundscape. Köchl's voice moved confidently between rough blues tinges and clear, powerful highs - a performance that strikingly touched the audience.
Even with "Jolene," she showcased her stylistic range … a slightly bluesy interpretation, where Roli Wesp shone with elegant runs on the piano and Philipp Kopmajer grounded the song with a restrained but precise rhythm. Köchl infused the piece with a mix of passion and narrative intensity that visibly captivated the audience. Kopmajer, in turn, demonstrated excellent timing: His drumming was never intrusive but always present and musically astute, with the vocal overlay to Magdalena Köchl's alto being unforgettable.
In between, a … unleashed Jäger, in his eloquence.
In some of his entries, an irony-saturated word staccato bombarded the audience, making one feel that due to the speed, they had to laugh at three punchlines simultaneously …
… with his bullseye - the sarcastic rendition of the ceremonial speech of a typical village politician - he united the entire audience in a collective, minutes-long fit of laughter.
…The audience reacted enthusiastically … one feels warmly embraced.
