From diagnoses that change life, to courage and inner strength
In her lecture, Martina Karner takes the audience into her book, in which she describes the thoughts, feelings, and experiences that have shaped her life. In the book “Gebrochen aber nicht verloren,” she writes about diagnoses, setbacks, therapies, and surgeries that pushed her to her limits and how she continued despite not knowing how far the journey still was. She attempts to convey how these difficult times felt for her, the highs and lows she experienced, and the questions, fears, and thoughts she battled with during these times that defined her daily life.
But she also shares thoughts on how from suffering, hope, gratitude, new perspectives, and clarity can emerge. Her story should also serve as a light for others. Not because everything has become good and perfect, but because she wants to encourage others that even the toughest times consist of moments of inner strength and quiet hope. Not loud, not always optimistic, but powerful. In her book, she shares some examples of exactly such thoughts, which despite pain, exhaustion, and inner struggle, show that something within her still lives that does not give up.
