SODL - reality and all the other things tour
The Austrian word goschat, which is inadequately translated as "cheeky," has found its ideal definition in the 20-year-old musician Sodl: You just have to watch one of her concerts and let yourself be swept away by her explosive primal force. Sodl, aka Anja Sodnikar, is a raw diamond that hopefully remains unpolished for as long as possible.
"Music has always been the most natural form of expression for me" and "The stage is my safe space," says Sodl, who was born in Salzkammergut. Strong contrasts are typical of her music; viscosity and intimacy are often replaced by confrontation and tremendous eruptions. She has been particularly influenced by artists like Alice Phoebe Lou, Phoebe Bridgers, and Fiona Apple, while Jimi Hendrix remains her eternal hero.
At 16, Sodl presented a song on the Austrian broadcaster FM4, and at 18 she moved to Vienna, releasing her debut EP "Flowers on the Moon" in 2020. Together with her band, which includes Matthias Pfaffl on drums beside Scholz, she is currently working at a rapid pace on new songs that break through stereotypical gender ascriptions, combining naturalism and earthiness with anger, empowerment, and absurd melodies.
We will get to hear these songs. One after the other. "A secret garden in my womb, I won’t hide it anymore," sings Sodl in "I’m A Woman," "I will speak my truth until my voice is sore." Sodl has come to stay.
