When the Venetian Antonio Vivaldi moved to Vienna in 1740 - three years after the completion of the Karlskirche - he probably also admired this extraordinary sacred building. Because as little as one can escape the unique architecture today, as immense and impressive, but also foreign the Karlskirche must have appeared to the people of the 18th century, even in the architecture-rich imperial city of Vienna.

For Vivaldi himself, the stay in Vienna was unlucky. Impoverished, he died here on July 28, 1741 and was buried only a few meters away from the Karlskirche at the "Spitaller Gottsacker", now the location of the Technical University. His grave, like Mozart's, is not preserved, his remains are lost. In contrast to the universally revered Mozart, only a simple stone tablet reminds us of Vivaldi.

"The Four Seasons" consist of four revolutionary violin concertos, each portraying a season. Four sonnets (probably by Vivaldi) are the template for this masterpiece, which takes us into a world of wild storms and lightning, breaking ice and bird chirping, sleeping shepherd boys, a hunting party, and many other special features.
