Die Zauberflöte
In 1791, the highly indebted Mozart completed the story of two lovers, who find each other amidst the battle of dark forces, together with his friend Schikaneder. This allows the utopia of a realm of reason and humanity to shine through, in which colorful birds also have their place.
In a Vienna suburban theater, Die Zauberflöte, which is now on the program of almost all major opera houses in the world, premiered.
232 years later, a traveling theater troupe brings its own version of the opera to the stage. The "Kratky-Baschik-Zaubertheater" is broke and urgently needs the perfect entertainment show. To achieve this, the troupe is willing to use any means necessary: the sacred composition is rearranged, Mozart's motifs transform into songs of various styles, and the revised libretto is shared among only 6 actors, each of whom must take on several roles.
In a sunken world of vaudeville, variety, and the dark Prater street theater, perhaps the boldest reinterpretation of the arguably most famous opera in the world arises.
The actor and musician Nils Strunk creates, with author Lukas Schrenk, a three-member band, and the ensemble, a joyful, musical reflection on the magic of the stage and the power of togetherness. Mozart and Schikaneder would have turned in their graves.
