Plot

The courtesan Violetta Valery hosts a party in her salon in Paris. Her young admirer, Alfredo Germont, sings a drinking song to impress her. After a coughing fit from Violetta, Alfredo takes his chance to explain to Violetta the seriousness of his feelings. Uncertain of her own feelings, she gives him a camellia blossom as a pledge. He may return once it has withered.

Three months later, Violetta and Alfredo live as a carefree couple at Violetta's expense in the countryside. When Alfredo recognizes this with shame, he departs for Paris to earn his own money.

During this time, Alfredo's father, Giorgio Germont, visits Violetta to urge her to end her relationship with his son. Their inappropriate relationship stands in the way of his daughter's happiness, whose socially suitable connection is now threatened. Violetta agrees, knowing she is already doomed to die. She suffers from tuberculosis. Impressed by her sincerity and devotion, Germont takes his leave.

Upon his return, Alfredo finds a distressed Violetta writing a letter. She soon leaves, and a messenger delivers her farewell letter to Alfredo. Desperate, he reads that she has chosen to return to her old lifestyle and renounces him.

Germont tries to comfort his son, but to no avail. After a public scandal at a party, where Alfredo heinously insults Violetta out of jealousy, she withdraws for good.

Months later, Violetta's condition deteriorates dramatically. Germont writes to her that he has informed Alfredo of their agreement. He wants to return to her soon. Violetta knows they will have no future together and bids farewell to her love and her life.

Suddenly, Alfredo bursts in, and the flicker of happiness seems to bring all hope back. Germont appears and affirms their love, but it is too late. Violetta gives Alfredo her portrait with the request to find a new bride and new happiness. For that, she will pray in heaven. She rises one last time to find death now.

Experience an evening as it could have been in 1790: the Baroque hall bathed in candlelight, a menu based on historical recipes, artists dressed in Mozart-era clothing, and compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart performed in the highest musical quality. The dinner and concert take place in the excellent acoustics of the historic Baroque hall of St. Peter. This location is easily accessible in the heart of Salzburg at the Stiftskulinarium St. Peter, which looks back on a 1200-year tradition and was first mentioned in a document in the year 803. The Mozart family also frequented this place, as evidenced by an entry in Nannerl Mozart's diary in 1783.

Today, the two opera singers and five instrumentalists of the AMADEUS CONSORT, established since 1996, perform arias and duets from the great Mozart operas "The Magic Flute," "Don Giovanni," and "The Marriage of Figaro" for you. The famous first movement from the serenade "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" completes the program. The dinner is modernly interpreted based on historical recipes from Mozart's time and consists of three courses. Berlin Alexanderplatz - Premiere

Libretto by Christiane Neudecker based on the novel by Alfred Döblin

What is a big city? Anonymity and isolation? Dehumanization and social inequality? These questions were raised by Alfred Döblin as early as 1929 in his novel. Brothers Vivan and Ketan Bhatti took Döblin's epic work as a starting point to transfer it into today's time. Their “Berlin Alexanderplatz” is not just an adaptation, but a modern redesign of the classic material that retains the original social context and historical dimension, while integrating contemporary perspectives and challenges. Franz Biberkopf tries to begin a new life in Berlin after his release from prison. The narrative describes his struggle against the demons of his past, his confrontation with the metropolis, and the recurring temptations and moral conflicts.

For the reinterpretation by Vivan and Ketan Bhatti, writer Christiane Neudecker adapted the novel in a stylized form. The Bhatti brothers deliberately use music to create contrasts: electronic rhythms reflect the relentless energy of the city, while calmer melancholic sounds deepen the protagonist's inner struggles. In 2023, the work was nominated by “Opernwelt” as the best premiere of the year.

The collaborative works of brothers Vivan and Ketan Bhatti range from contemporary chamber music to experimental music and dance theater, stage and film music, to electronic hip-hop-based productions. Ketan and Vivan Bhatti's music theater pieces are created in cooperation with renowned authors and pose questions about integration and exclusion.

As a specialist in new music, music director Leslie Suganandarajah is dedicating himself to this current work. The new drama director Nuran David Calis is developing the music theater piece “Berlin Alexanderplatz” with his long-standing team for stage (Anne Ehrlich) and costumes (Anna Sünkel) as a gripping multidisciplinary project.

The introduction to the work takes place 45 and 30 minutes before the start of the performance.

This will be a glorious anniversary! The most important women's sports event in Austria celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2026 and shines with a spectacular setup. The Upper Austria Ladies Linz will be held on clay for the first time from April 5 to April 12, 2026, at the Design Center, offering fans a whole new tennis experience.

With this, the Upper Austria Ladies Linz continues its successful tradition as the second oldest indoor tournament on the WTA Tour. Starting with Martina Navratilova, followed by Venus and Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Ana Ivanovic, and the current world number one Aryna Sabalenka, a total of 19 world number ones have competed at the Upper Austria Ladies Linz - a true success story! A special congratulations for the upcoming anniversary has already been sent by tennis pioneer Billie Jean King, who sent a video message to Sandra Reichel: "Congratulations on the anniversary. Thank you for everything you have done for women's tennis and the WTA. All the best for the next 35 years!", said King, who was one of the founders of the WTA in 1973.

Top 10 player Ekaterina Alexandrova wants to defend her title -
Austrian women on the rise
The winner of the Upper Austria Ladies Linz 2025, Ekaterina Alexandrova, has already confirmed her participation for the anniversary tournament. The 30-year-old triumphed in February in a high-class final against Dayana Yastremska and thus began what is likely the best year of her career. Alexandrova will make her ninth appearance in Linz next April. "I always feel at home in Linz and I am already looking forward to returning next year and trying to defend my title. It will surely be something very special to play on clay for the first time in this beautiful hall in front of the great audience," Alexandrova looks ahead.

Austria's tennis women are also currently on the rise: With Julia Grabher, Sinja Kraus, and young talent Lilli Tagger, three players are on a successful course internationally. Grabher recently won a WTA 125 tournament in Florianopolis (Brazil) and has returned to the top 100.

Sinja Kraus is about to break through this barrier for the first time. The Viennese player recently won her first WTA 125 tournament in Colombia. And then there’s 17-year-old Lilli Tagger, who was recently named Austria's Young Sportsperson of the Year. Tagger won the girls' competition at the French Open in Paris in June. In November, she made her debut at her first WTA tournament and sensationally reached the finals. "I am really excited about the upward trend of Austrian players. This is a hugely important signal for women's tennis in Austria," explains tournament director Sandra Reichel.

Sports Capital and Sports Hub The Upper Austria Ladies Linz will kick off next year on Easter weekend with the qualification on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026. The final of the tournament will take place on Sunday, April 12, 2026. On this day, Upper Austria and Linz will become the sporting center of Austria. Before the final of the WTA 500 tournament, the Linz Marathon will take place in the state capital of Upper Austria on this Sunday. The organizers are already in close communication to achieve optimal coordination of both events.

More than just a tennis tournament The Upper Austria Ladies Linz will also implement numerous initiatives in 2026 as part of its four-pillar strategy aimed at promoting women's sports, youth, inclusion, and sustainability. Continuations of the women's sports conference "Advantage Ladies", the children's action "1,000 tennis rackets for 1,000 girls", and an inclusion day with a wheelchair tennis exhibition are already in planning.

The journey starts in the early 20th century in a small village on the Czech border. There, Benedikt Mitmannsgruber's great-grandparents decide to have 15 children. In the 1960s, Benedikt Mitmannsgruber's parents are born. They spend their childhood next to the Iron Curtain in the deepest Austrian province. No one really knows whether this little strip of land actually belongs to Czechia or Austria. In the 1990s, the curtain falls, and Benedikt Mitmannsgruber's parents decide to conceive a son. He is born into a world where he never quite fits in, but still loves, with all its quirky inhabitants and peculiarities.

A tribute to growing up in nowhere. A love letter to forgotten little towns. A journey into one's own past. A quirky look at our society and a world gone awry.

“At the beginning of my career, I made a promise to myself and my mother Fannie Mae Allison that on every album of mine, at least one or two pieces by my father would be heard,” he explains.

Bernard has kept his word: both at concerts and on his records, he faithfully performs his father's songs to this day. He usually does this in a funky, rock-oriented style that clearly differs from the traditional blues he grew up with.

While he was still finding his own musical voice, his father encouraged him to “play it the way you feel it,” rather than copy what was before him. Just in time for the 30th anniversary of Ruf Records and over three decades after the debut of blues guitar master Bernard Allison, Luther's Blues extensively celebrates the musical legacy of Bernard's father Luther Allison – a true legend of Chicago Blues and a central figure in the history of the record label.

The double CD contains 20 outstanding recordings by Bernard Allison, each one a composition by Luther Allison that has previously appeared on one of Bernard's numerous albums. Allison himself selected the tracks for this collection; Pauler Acoustics, a renowned name in the Hi-Fi scene, has lovingly remastered them.

The 20 Luther Allison songs on Luther's Blues have thus been upgraded by a representative of the next blues generation for the 21st century. They are not necessarily Luther's most famous pieces. When he works on a new album, Bernard says he often looks for “songs that were overlooked back then by my father. I then give them my own touch.”

The tracklist of the two CDs spans exactly 30 years, from “Hang On” – recorded in Paris in the summer of 1992, when Allison was only in his mid-twenties – to the two pieces from the last studio album Highs & Lows, which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Blues Chart in 2022 and earned a nomination for Blues-Rock Album of the Year at the Blues Music Awards. There are also new versions of familiar Luther Allison songs like “Bad Love,” “Life Is A Bitch,” and “Let's Try It Again.”

Bernard Allison has played a significant role in keeping these songs, now considered classics, in our collective consciousness. This is especially true for “Serious,” an exceptional track that first appeared on a Luther Allison record in 1987. His son plays it at every concert without exception and considers it his father's most popular song worldwide.

Yet he has never lost sight of where he comes from and is back on tour!

How strong is the cohesion of our society in the face of an impending catastrophe?

It was a sensation when, a few years ago, the long-lost literary work of the Viennese author Maria Lazar was rediscovered in England. Lazar, who is among the most significant authors of Viennese modernism, emigrated as a Jewish woman to Danish exile in the 1930s. She died in Sweden in 1948. Director Mira Stadler brings the gripping parable about civil courage and humanity to the stage as an Austrian premiere.

Once upon a time, there was supposedly a princess who was so angry at a frog because he was so disgusting and intrusive that she slammed him against a wall. The impact transformed the frog. Or was it the princess who transformed? Because she found an expression for her anger? Where did she find it? And why was the frog so repulsive? Is disgust outside and anger inside the body? Or where are they? And how does the anger come out of the body again once it is inside?

The artists deconstruct the tale of the Frog Prince and curiously approach disgust and anger. They search for suitable images, movements, and sounds for inner states during the transformation.

Flamenco 360° is an initiative of the Círculo Flamenco de Viena aimed at providing a comprehensive understanding of a Flamenco style (Palo) through a series of theoretical-practical courses. The selected Palo for 2026 is Soleá por Bulerías.

We explore the origin, history, rhythm, structure, and melodic styles and their significance for dance, guitar, percussion, and singing.
Finally, we apply the acquired knowledge in practical 10 practice sessions.

The course series is aimed at aficionados, musicians, dancers, and singers. The goal is to gain a deep understanding and the necessary quality for an authentic presentation.

It has been 50 years since the most original jazz band in Austria was founded, and since then it has performed all over Austria. Now the remaining founding members of the "Old Stoariegler Dixielandband" are "on tour". With a combined age of 408 years, they travel the country as the "Very Old Stoariegler Dixielandband". At their celebrated concerts, no eye stays dry. They bring along jazz arrangements for the Strauss Year 2025, cheerful tunes from the US jazz greats Mickey Katz and Spike Jones, many important Dixieland earworms from "Icecream" to "Struttin`with Some Barbecue" to "Oh When The Saints" and the best songs from Louis Armstrong, Chris Barber, Sidney Bechet, or Louis Prima. There are also plenty of stories and anecdotes from their 50-year "life tour" and their concerts with Fatty George, Oscar Klein, Hans Van der Sys, Peter Rapp, Chris Lohner, and appearances in "Musikantenstadl". There is no end to this success story in sight: "The Rolling Stones have been around for 64 years. We want to top them by at least one year - because we are unstoppable," say the musicians.

Her compositional talent has been honored with prestigious awards, including the SGAE (Spanish Society of Authors and Publishers) award at the Paco de Lucía competition, making her the first female Flamenco guitarist to receive a professional award in the Flamenco genre.

Her unique style and distinctive sound, the result of a deep understanding and development of the genre, make her a key figure in the contemporary Flamenco scene.

She is the daughter of Flamenco activist Luis Terry and Copla singer Rosa María Luján. Her love for music was evident from her childhood when she accompanied her mother on her performances and tours across Spain.

Gesetz der Schwerkraft - Premiere

In a suburb, two young people meet who struggle with their identity and are searching for belonging and acceptance: Dom and Fred stand at the crossroads between childhood and adulthood, between the expectations placed upon them and the desire to simply be themselves.

Dom was born as a girl but does not feel very feminine and actually wants nothing to do with binary gender assignments anyway. Fred prefers to be in tight jeans and with makeup, even if all he wants is for people to find him "normal".

Their meeting place: a cliff overlooking a bridge that leads to a city where everything seems possible – a utopian place of longing where they could be exactly as they wish. They make a pact: one day they will cross the bridge together. But the reality in their school and their environment keeps them trapped. Bullying, insecurity, and the fear of not being accepted take a toll on them. They grow closer, then drift apart again, and must learn to stand up for themselves – even though it is difficult.

Sylvestre's play tells of friendship, the exploration of the self, and the courage to steadfastly walk one's own path. It raises questions about belonging and self-determination, without resorting to hasty categorizations like "transgender" or "homosexual". At its core, it always focuses on what moves Dom and Fred deep down – creating moments where the lines between reality and longing blur.

Indulge yourself in two hours of entertainment at the highest level! We guarantee unadulterated West Styrian dialect and continuous mirth. Life is often stressful and sad, which is why our performances are a guarantee of laughter for young and old.
Particular attention is paid by the amateur actors to an authentic stage design.

Before and after the performance, visitors will be treated in the theater cafe with regional delicacies and homemade pastries. A glass of wine from the Bad Gamser theater vintners is a perfect match.
