Werner Schmidbauer Solo Tour starting October 2023

Since 2017, I have been on the road in well over two hundred concerts with my solo program throughout Germany and Austria, interrupted only by an extensive SÜDEN II tour with my friends Pippo Pollina and Martin Kälberer. As is often the case, the tour schedule left little time and opportunity to write new songs. Even during the pandemic, my "pen remained silent."

However, for several months now, new songs have been coming to me as if by magic. I am brimming with musical ideas, spending hours, days, and weeks with my guitar, crafting the new songs and lyrics... what has emerged is a jewel box of songs that deeply touch my heart and express my transformative and comprehensive life journey of the past 6 years as unvarnished and authentic as possible.

Now over sixty, I am far from a mellowing with age, complacency, or inner retreat. The political and social changes since the time of the pandemic and the beginning of the Russian invasion into Ukraine deeply concern me. The deep rifts that have formed are dividing our families, our society, and our shared world.

I too feel doubt, fear, and anger within me, but even stronger is the firm belief that we still have the power to stand together and confront fear, doubt, division, and destruction. However, we must understand that as humanity, we must protect the wonderful richness of this planet and share life on Earth peacefully and equitably. Because one thing is becoming clearer to me: WE ARE ONE!

From this conviction, I have written the title song of my new live program and also of my new album "WE ARE ONE." To inspire courage, overcome divisions, and finally understand that we are all connected and can only succeed together in saving our planet and ourselves as humanity. "One life or none."

And so, starting in October 2023, I will be on the road solo again, with brand new songs, but also with many old heartfelt songs, to spend close, personal, but above all encouraging, unifying, and fun concert evenings with my audience... because I am, as always, determined to enjoy every single evening with you, because: WE ARE ONE!

The Early Years

The roots of black gospel and spirituals date back to the early 18th century. Back then, African slaves developed their first English hymns in the foreign land of America. At that time, they still held their inherent moral beliefs and religious convictions.

The Ensemble's Story

For almost twenty years, we have traveled across the USA to proclaim the good news in churches and theaters. During this time, I had the privilege of experiencing some of the best gospel singers America has to offer. Wherever my travels took me, I always kept my ears open.

It was then in my own community in Harlem that the dream was born to bring together some of the best American gospel singers as a group, so they could share their spiritual fire with brothers and sisters in Europe. Thanks to the help of our producers and organizers, we can now live this dream.

Whenever the singers of the ensemble "The Christmas Gospel" raise their crystal-clear voices to the highest registers at the beginning and end of the concert, a shiver regularly runs through the audience. That is the spirit of gospel - a commonly heard opinion of the performance by "The Christmas Gospel."

But the gospel classics such as "Oh Happy Day," Amazing Grace, and "When the Saint" are naturally part of the ensemble's repertoire, which impresses mainly through the balance of female and male voices.

Gospel - classical and modern soul ballads - emotion and temperament come together here to create a fascinating experience. The different experiences that The Christmas Gospel gathered on stage, as well as their well-known knack for selecting their singers, lead us to expect sold-out churches and concert halls during the upcoming The Christmas Gospel tour in Germany and Austria after over 500 concerts from 2018 to 2023.

It is a concert - but the atmosphere of the famous services of Black Churches makes the audience on the big Austria tour in 2023 become a part of the "community." It is the cheerful contemplativeness that makes these Christmas Gospel concerts an extraordinary event.

The selection of works conveys the feeling of experiencing an authentic concert from the Baroque period. In the style of "Musical Academies" - concerts during Mozart's time - individual movements from symphonies and solo concertos, as well as overtures, arias, and duets from operas are performed at the Viennese Mozart Concerts. Each includes particularly popular and well-known pieces that captivate the audience.

A modern fairy tale to melt away
The Theater Liberi stages the well-known fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen as a modern musical adaptation. The professional musical ensemble tells the story of the loneliness of an outsider and her desire for admiration and acceptance, but also of courage and unconditional friendship. This contrast is also reflected in the stage design, which blurs the boundaries between fantasy and reality. Musically, the audience is taken on a rapid journey through different genres with grand arrangements, complemented by impressive choreographies and exceptional lighting design.

Adventure in snow and ice
Gerda and Kay are best friends and inseparable since childhood. The two lead a completely normal life until one day a winter storm approaches their city. That evening, Gerda's mother tells them for the first time the story of a magical queen, the ruler of snow and ice. When Kay mysteriously disappears shortly after, Gerda sets out to find him. She lands in a mysterious world where anything seems possible. Suddenly, Gerda is in the midst of an adventure where she meets funny characters, makes an eccentric acquaintance, and falls into the hands of a quirky gang. Luckily, she is not alone and can count on unexpected help. But time is running out and Gerda must muster all her courage to save Kay from the icy world of the Snow Queen...

What could be more beautiful than celebrating the feast of the year in peace and contemplation with your family once in a while? Others do celebrate Christmas together after all. When the food is ready, the table is beautifully set, the gifts are all wrapped, the tree is decorated... Soon everyone will be here. Great. If only it wasn't for that door. A small oversight. And the disaster begins to unfold... Spick and Span - A Christmas Debacle, written and performed by Gery Seidl.

And now it's time for BANANZ

The Hackler, also a seer. He has worked everywhere. And he has seen things. Knows life in factories. In small workshops and large manufactories. Under roofs and over water. And all in every little corner of this world.

Why was that so? Who knows. But it has done something to him. He has observed, felt the milieus. Has listened a lot. He writes about it, Hackler songs, criminal songs, love songs. Transfigured lyrics meet the banal coarseness of a singing worker.

He sings intensely, his voice is unforgettable. About changing, being a stranger to oneself. About the tedious. And the beautiful, even where it's dark. Knows the sad parlors and the chic leather shoe shops. He welcomes you. Doesn't judge, recognizes so much, nothing will change, nor does it have to. Songs, as they come out of his mouth, and on top of that the most beautiful melodies.

He sings on stage. And accompanies himself on the guitar. Just like a sewing machine. Playful like a dragonfly dancing over the water. Sometimes tearful, sometimes grumbling, then again exuberant. About what is. What he remembers, whether it was important or not. Insights are gained that end in a seesaw of brutality and lyricism. Aren't we all patients in the practice of life? asks Bananz. We know what he means.

On the album, musicians also play. Brass and a drummer. Sounds like a mix of New Orleans Jazz and Balkan Style. It underlines Bananz's subtle wit. Trashy crashing. Sensitively embracing. Sometimes just wild and wrong. BANANZ is compelling - BANANZ is good!

He can do it alone, he can do it with a band. Alone, it's more intimate. With the band, it's bigger. But it's never boring. This show will sweep you away one way or another. A mix of Tom Waits and Element of Crime, but unmistakably Austrian, like a wild Qualtinger of the present. It forces you to listen. Regardless of style and age, Bananz will appeal to a very broad audience. A project that also convinces and excites live.

The Person

BANANZ sees the Lower Austrian summer light in 1979. Childhood between having to practice violin and first moments of enthusiasm for the old Ami sound on tube guitars.

School doesn’t do it - so apprenticeship as a spark maker.

Formative years on construction sites and in various hole-in-the-wall joints follow, which ultimately provide the breeding ground for his character studies on his trip to the holy grail.

He starts writing songs, malicious songs, they practically force themselves on him. He longs for maximum local color, not cheap deception. Explores the Austrian DNA of being annoyed.

He eats meatloaf and loves unhealthy food, soft drinks and chewing pleasure. Previously also intoxicating things. He is an addicted non-smoker.

He quickly develops into a player of animalistic primal beats and prefers to shoot his lyrics from the hip.

Today he still works his ass off to be able to finance his music.

During a cozy stroll-hike, we will search for edible and healing shoots, blossoms, fruits, and roots. You will learn about the abundant variety of wild plants growing right outside your door, as well as which poisonous plants you should never eat.

I will share with you numerous tips on how to use them and provide recipe suggestions.
