Costello's Juliet Letters & Rhapsody in Blue 100
In the first part of the concert, you will hear one of the rare live interpretations of Elvis Costello's "Juliet Letters" with the emerging Upper Austrian musical star Matthias Trattner.
In the second part of the concert, we will remember, with pianist Karl Eichinger, that Gershwin's timeless classic "Rhapsody in Blue" is already celebrating its 100th birthday this year.

Matthias Trattner
Born and raised in Upper Austria.
In 2016, Matthias graduated from the THEATERAKADEMIE AUGUST EVERDING in Munich. Engagements in the Vienna theater scene led him to the RAIMUND THEATER with the successful musical "I am from Austria", to the VOLKSOPER (Cabaret), RONACHER (Don Camillo & Peppone), NEUE TRIBÜNE at Café Landtmann, KABARETT SIMPL, DAS VINDOBONA, and THEATER IN DER DRACHENGASSE.
Performances at the BÜHNE BADEN as "Robin Hood" in the musical of the same name, in "Hello, Dolly!" and in the operetta "Rose von Stambul", as well as under MAYA HAKVOORT MUSIC PRODUCTIONS in "Blutsbrüder" and "Into the Woods" in Brunn am Gebirge.
In Germany and Switzerland, engagements at the BAD HERSFELDER SOMMERFESTSPIELE (Cabaret), CIRCUS KRONE (Jesus Christ Superstar), PRINZREGENTEN THEATER (The Sound of Music, The Drowsy Chaperone) in Munich, THEATER ST. GALLEN (Don Camillo & Peppone), and BÜHNEN BERN (Next to Normal).
Matthias Trattner was a member of the renowned ST. FLORIANER SÄNGERKNABEN from 2003 to 2006. Performances and concerts worldwide.
Karl Eichinger
Karl Eichinger studied piano and instrumental pedagogy at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, where he graduated with a master's degree and diploma.
He also studied piano concert performance at the Music and Art University of Vienna (MUK) and jazz piano with Rudi Wilfer. Additionally, he participated in masterclasses with Oleg Maisenberg and Rudolf Kehrer.
As a soloist, Karl Eichinger has collaborated with the Tonkünstler Orchestra, Brno Philharmonic, Künstlerorchester Wien-Lilienfeld, Akademische Bläserphilharmonie Wien, Radio TV Orchestra Tirana, Dornbirn Youth Symphony Orchestra, Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra, Musikvereinsorchester St.Pölten, among others. He has also worked with artists like Hans Gansch, Ildiko Raimondi, Andreas Schager, Karl Merkatz, Peter Matic, Cornelius Obonya, Caspar Richter, and others.
Karl Eichinger has recently recorded a CD with the Brno Philharmonic featuring works by George Gershwin (Concerto in F, Rhapsody in Blue) and Daniel Muck (Concerto for piano, dedicated to Karl Eichinger). The CD was released by the Vienna label Gramola and presented on Radio Ö1, Radio Klassik, and Radio NÖ.
The CD received high praise in Fonoforum and the American Fanfare, one of the most important magazines for classical music.
Performing both solo and chamber music, Karl Eichinger has appeared both nationally and internationally at venues such as the Musikverein Wien, Konzerthaus Wien, Radiokulturhaus Wien, and festivals like Bregenz Festival, Wiener Festwochen, Gmunden Festival Weeks, Klangbogen Wien, Jeunesse Musicale, Carinthian Summer, Kammermusikfestival Austria "Allegro Vivo", Kultursommer St.Paul, Schloß Halbturn, Festival Pablo Casals in France, St. Pölten Festival Weeks, Mozartfestival Salzkammergut, Musikwochen Millstatt, Musikwochen Stams, Musikwochen Langenargen. He has toured as a soloist and chamber musician in Italy, Canada, France, Spain, the USA, Asia, Israel, Romania, Egypt, Slovakia, China, Poland, South Africa, and Germany. Karl Eichinger frequently collaborates with Austrian cultural forums.
Eichinger directs the Viennese Instrumentalists and the concert series "Music from History and Present" at Mautner Schlössl Wien.
Sonare String Quintet
The musicians of the Sonare String Quintet, lead by concertmaster of the Sonare Linz Orchestra, are also members of the Austrian Salonists, instructors in the Upper Austrian State Music School System, as well as chamber and orchestral musicians. Their repertoire spans from Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Jazz to contemporary music.
The ensemble is particularly valued for its music-dramaturgical concepts, which have produced unique and highly acclaimed word-sound projects.
