The world-famous performances of the Lipizzaner horses - the "Ballet of the White Stallions" - take place in the magnificent baroque Winter Riding School, built from 1729 to 1735 under Karl VI, at the Hofburg: in the most beautiful riding hall in the world!

The performances are the result of years of training and intensive work by the riders and their Lipizzaner horses. The spirited young stallions enchant the audience as much as the already fully trained school stallions, who showcase themselves in the school quadrille, during the schools on and above the ground, in the Pas de Deux, and on the Long Rein.

A memorial plaque in Innsbruck refers to a story of persecution, resistance, and liberation: of Margarete Kelderer and her sister Eva Weber, who were crucially involved in Operation Greenup but do not appear in collective memory. If at all, the two American agents and a Tyrolean resistance fighter who parachuted onto the Stubai Glacier on February 26, 1945 are known - Fred Mayer, Hans Wijnberg, and Franz Weber from Oberperfuss. They were supposed to provide the US intelligence with information from the "Alpine Fortress of the Nazis". Several women and families also helped them, like the Weber sisters, Franz Weber's fiancée Anni Niederkircher, and her mother Anna. The Gestapo tortured and killed, wanting to expose the network. But Innsbruck was eventually liberating without a fight under the codename Brooklyn, inspiring Quentin Tarantino's film Inglourious Basterds.

To mark the 80th anniversary of Operation Greenup, the Tyrolean State Theater delves into the history of Tyrolean resistance, in which women also played a central role. Through research, archival material, and collaboration with historians and experts, an emotional and vivid theatrical bridge is built from the past to the present, scratching the surface of national post-war myths from a global and local perspective and breaking away from the primal male hero narrative. Let's finally also tell the stories of the many heroines and delve deep into the gaps in memory of Tyrolean contemporary history!

Artistic Director Christian Struppeck is bringing Cameron Mackintosh's spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, which has never been seen in the German-speaking world, to the Raimund Theater from spring 2024.
