It is no longer human voices, but planets and suns that revolve: In his eighth symphony, Gustav Mahler reaches for the stars – and no wonder that at its premiere, due to its vast musical forces, it was announced as the "Symphony of a Thousand." The Pentecost hymn "Veni, creator spiritus" and the finale of Goethe's "Faust II," written a thousand years later, converge through musically supported references into an overwhelming celebration of the creative spirit itself. In this regard, Mahler has not only set to music the experience of artistic inspiration. Celebrated with a prominent solo lineup and famous choirs, it will be a monumental farewell for Yutaka Sado as chief conductor of the Tonkünstler-Orchester: Arigatō gozaimasu – a thousand thanks!

Brave and uncompromising: Circus Baobab places the resilience of West African women at the center of its new program. Meanwhile, the collective from Guinea has become a key player in the African circus scene, blending modern circus arts with elements of ritual dances. In the new piece Yongoyély (“Tax Collector” in Susu), it presents its engagement with the situation of women in Guinea and West Africa amidst female genital mutilation, marginalization, and self-empowerment. Artistic director Kerfalla Camara and director Yann Ecauvre shy away from no taboos and allow their protagonists to raise their voices through their artistry. Using concrete blocks, wooden poles, and whips, as well as aerial acrobatics, tightrope walking, hula-hoop, and dance elements, the artists work alongside two dancers to express female empowerment in dialogue with tradition: spectacular, touching, groundbreaking.

The regional winners taste: A celebration of wine in St. Pölten

The Festspielhaus in St. Pölten will transform into a stage for the best wines from Lower Austria on June 18, 2025. The Niederösterreichische Landwirtschaftskammer and Wein Niederösterreich invite you to the tasting of the current regional winners and finalists in 24 categories from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Over 300 top wines from the leading wine-growing federal state of Lower Austria will be available.

The regional wine award is the largest independent wine competition in the country: From more than 6,000 submissions, the best wines in 24 categories have been selected this year: still and sparkling, classic and bold, aged and with residual sweetness, also rosé or natural. The award-winning wines will be presented in the impressive setting of the Festspielhaus in the state capital. The NÖ Sieger Tasting offers a unique opportunity to engage with renowned winemakers and discover new wines from all eight wine-growing regions of Lower Austria.

Traveling by public transport is a breeze: Just a 35-minute train ride from Vienna (only a few minutes from the train station to the Festspielhaus) or via the dense network of VOR buses from across the country (stop Landhaus in close proximity). Those arriving by car can conveniently park in the underground garage beneath the Festspielhaus.
