Since 2008, friends and companions of the much-too-soon deceased composer and author GEORG DANZER, who can certainly be considered one of the greatest song poets of our country, have been celebrating the birthday of the crowd favorite every year.
Under the title "Thank You Danzer" and since 2016 also under the title "DanzerMania", concerts have taken place in Vienna every October, where the Danzer band musicians ULLI BÄER, LENNY DICKSON, THOMAS MORA, and MARTIN MADER, as well as ANDY BAUM, MATTHIAS KEMPF, co-initiator CHRISTIAN BECKER, and numerous local stars from music and cabaret celebrate the countless songs of Danzer.

Ernst Hutter led the orchestra for the last 25 years with his own arrangements and a new generation of soloists into the 21st century and paved the way for the current enthusiasm for brass music palpable in all generations with "his Egerländer," his persistence, and his visions. Now, with Alexander Wurz, the next step follows: The 39-year-old tenor horn player and conductor, who has been part of the orchestra for 15 years, was selected by Ernst Hutter as his successor. In a world where war and destruction have again become the bloody business of ruthless autocrats, the Spatzen want to set a sign of peace with their new record and especially with the vividly emotional title song „Friedensadler“. The record collects the entire Spatzen universe in 16 new, grand songs.

The Spatzen are, to this day, passionate summiteers in the music business. They can proudly claim an incredible 13 Echo awards and countless platinum and gold certifications throughout their history. The Spatzen have never let themselves be bent since their founding and have consistently followed their path. They are the most successful group in the folk music scene of all time. This success has good reasons. The Spatzen, with their music, are unique and have shaped the style of folk music to this day.

Images of nature, deep emotions, and religious values have always been deeply rooted in the Spatzen's music. Their love for their homeland and nature defines the Spatzen and their songs. Thus, titles about the beauty of nature in and around Kastelruth must not be missing from any Spatzen album. Outstanding among such emotional songs about their homeland is „Mein Südtirol“. The song sings with beautiful nature metaphors of sincere feelings for home. It is a traditionally sounding, familiar Spatzen title, which, with its sophisticated brass arrangements and the emotional singing style of frontman Norbert Rier, stands like no other for the music of the Spatzen. An anthem that strikes a similar chord is the beautiful ballad „Terra Montagna“. Homesickness, longing, and the power of the mountains make this title a heartfelt highlight of the album. The catchy melody, framed by the perfectly arranged Spatzen sound, brings the majestic South Tyrolean mountains to life before our eyes.

But the Kastelruther Spatzen also bring plenty of fun and joy to the fore on „Friedensadler“. Right from the first song of the album „Lass uns wieder tanzen“, fans are guaranteed to be up on tables and benches. The song swings in off-beat with virtuously arranged brass instruments. It’s a lively number that will surely find many friends in ski lodges as well.

With gentle blues influences and depth, the song „Ruhe in Frieden drob’n im Himmel“ surprises. Good songs about death are rare and certainly not easy listening. The Spatzen manage a heartfelt ode to life after death here, without losing sight of the sorrow of loss. Thoughtful yet also comforting, this song is surely one of the emotional highlights on „Friedensadler“. Likewise heartfelt and filled with melancholy, „Eine Frau alleine“ makes us live through a bitter separation, but in the end, a song gives the woman hope and lets her dream of a new relationship. A beautiful, sing-along-inviting melody also gives this hope new strength in the music. True greatness in sounds and words ultimately gifts us the magnificent anthem „Die Welt braucht neue Träume“. A brilliantly catchy chorus and a wall of powerful sounds makes our neck hairs stand on end, bringing tears of happiness to our eyes. This song is certainly one of the strongest and most moving pieces the Spatzen have recorded lately.

The album „Friedensadler“ is a masterpiece of the folk music and Schlager genre. The Kastelruther Spatzen still pay close attention, being children of their time. The album clearly takes a stance on war, tells wonderful and moving stories, and soothes the soul with beautiful images of home from the South Tyrolean Alps. But the album also has its fun and cheerful sides and thus has something to offer for every Spatzen and folk music fan.
