Wiener Blond - Bis in der Früh
Bis in der Früh – this is the name of the third and so far poppiest studio album of the band Wiener Blond. Twelve danceable songs about the urban jungle and possible survival strategies - musically packaged in a unique variant of urban pop music, influenced by the diverse experiences life in the city offers.
Verena Doublier and Sebastian Radon have been singing, beatboxing, composing, and grumbling their way through their everyday worlds and into the hearts of their audience for twelve years now. Besides their spectacular live performances, their surprising lyrics have become as much a trademark as their musical versatility. In 2019, after two studio albums ("Der Letzte Kaiser"-2015, "ZWA"-2016), they released their first live album ("endlich salonfähig!") in cooperation with the original Wiener Salonensemble. The melodies and string sounds of this salon-viable era made way in 2020 on the fourth long player for more grooves, loops, and electronics.
For their third studio album, the duo took significantly more time in the studio than ever before. Together with producer Albin Janoska, they took a long time to refine a new, unique Wiener Blond sound. Beatboxing, vocal sounds, and acoustic guitar mingle with drum machines, synths, and voice sampling to create a distinct sound concept. The third album of a band is often referred to as "the difficult one," but if one wishes, Wiener Blond has achieved their personal "Sgt. Pepper" album with "Bis in der Früh": a transformation and the beginning of a new musical chapter that seamlessly continues the red thread of the band's history. Live, the songs are brought to the stage in a band formation, which is also a novelty in the twelve-year history of the band.
As usual, the lyrics are of course at the center of the songs for Wiener Blond. The focus of the narratives increasingly lies away from all clichés and everyday stories on phenomena of the margins of the days. The lively in-between finds place in the new songs of the duo. As it is said in the first single Wach: "Wach simma imma–aba munta wer'ma nimma." and the song Endgerät deals with the almost limitless love-hate relationship with the holy device that costs us some hours of sleep: "Wir schaun uns endlos an, aba wir sehn uns ned. Die Zeit ist aufgelöst mit meinem Endgerät." Perhaps "Bis in der Früh" is an album as a tribute to classic Picknbleim, which is already rebellious by nature in a world of constant acceleration.
With their grooves, melodies, and stories, Wiener Blond makes the crisis danceable. Bis in der Früh is inspired by the pulsating life in a big city, which itself hangs somewhere between East and West, in constant change and yet trapped in ongoing compromises in the lively in-between.
