This special evening is dedicated to one of nature’s most curious and captivating forms of life: the slime mould. Through the lenses of three remarkable artists, we’ll explore how these single-celled organisms become subjects, collaborators—and muses.

First, Barry Webb takes us deep into The Unseen World of Slime Mould. Based in the UK, Barry has spent the past six years perfecting the art of capturing slime moulds in all their surreal beauty. Using advanced focus stacking techniques—sometimes combining over a hundred images for a single photo—he creates otherworldly portraits of these tiny organisms. His award-winning images have appeared in international publications, books, and exhibitions, revealing a hidden world that lies just beneath our feet.

Following Barry, Laura and Mike from SYMCYTO will present Slime Mould, Timelapse & Making Art in Collaboration with Nature. As the world leans into artificial intelligence, SYMCYTO turns its attention to the ancient, organic intelligence of slime mould. Their work invites these organisms to become active partners in artistic exploration—creating mesmerizing time-lapse films and experimental visuals that blur the line between science and art. They’ll share insights into their creative process, technical tricks for working with time and form, and their broader reflections on pattern, agency, and nature’s quiet intelligence.
