Julia Meladin is a phenomenon: "Angst," the debut single of the newcomer, has amassed over 1.3 million streams in a very short time, and on TikTok, the 20-year-old singer-songwriter already has over 287,000 followers. Why? Because Julia Meladin writes songs that not only resonate with her but also with many people, touch them deeply, and don't let go easily.
Born in 2003 in a small village in Brandenburg, Julia comes into contact with music at an early age. At home, Queen and the Neue Deutsche Welle play, and her father plays and writes songs, inspiring his daughter to do the same soon. First, Julia plays guitar, then at the age of eight, she writes her first songs: "They were songs about love in fake English - but I couldn't help it, I just had to write them." With her first band, Julia not only plays covers but also her own songs, which she produces in music class, before deciding to release a song snippet via social media for the first time.
One of them: "Angst" - a song about one's own fears and how they sometimes consume a person. Created at home, in Julia's room, on the piano overlooking the vast Brandenburg landscape, the song becomes a viral hit. The first snippet Julia releases garners over 100,000 views overnight. "I received so many comments from people whom I spoke to their hearts, that I made new versions of the song with the stories of my followers. Thus, a real series emerged.
Since 2021, Julia Meladin has been posting her own tracks on her TikTok channel. Unapologetically direct songs about urgent topics such as disappointment and loneliness, exclusion and societal coldness, or pressure to perform and the search for one's own identity. Like the completely self-produced piece "Angst," which immediately goes viral and attracts the attention of all major record labels to the singer, songwriter, and musician. After signing with Sony Music, she solidifies her status as one of the most exciting German newcomers with her official debut single "10 out of 10". Towards the end of last year, the pop-punk earworm "Beispiel daran" follows as another advance single of her debut EP, which is now available. Currently, Julia Meladin has over 5.9 million total streams of her songs, captivating over 287k followers on TikTok, nearly 262k monthly Spotify listeners, over 73.5k Instagram followers, and almost 76k YouTube subscribers.
"Perhaps for you, it's just a few words, while it destroys the self-esteem of others, yes," is the message from the 20-year-old to all those who believe they can garner a few likes and clicks by body shaming and making fun of others. "In my community, many feel insecure due to beauty trends," explains Julia Meladin. "Not only on social media but also in real life. I like that I can use my reach to draw attention to this and perhaps contribute to a more respectful interaction with each other."
